John H. “Captain” Pinkard

John H. “Captain” Pinkard died Oct. 20, 2014, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. He was 62.

Mr. Pinkard was born Sept. 15, 1952, to Josephine Mallett and Excel Pinkard in Vicksburg.

He married Shelia Shorts on Oct. 16, 2013. He graduated from San Marcus High School, where he received recognition in track and field, and was employed as a carpenter at Diamond Jacks Casino.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Robert Robinson.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Pinkard of Port Gibson; two brothers, Herman McNeill of Vicksburg and Ledaris McNeill of South Bend, Ind.; three sons, John Pinkard of San Marcos, Texas, Justin Coleman of Tallulah, La., and Matthew Chase of Port Gibson; seven daughters, Jelisa Young of Port Gibson, Nichola Semien of Seguin, Texas, Ebony Gardner, Olivia Martinez and Shianne McGee all of Vicksburg, Jazzmine Lamela of Victorville, Calif., and Ahnjaliyah Coleman of Tallulah; nine grandchildren; and a nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Greater Grove Street Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Casey Fisher officiating.
