World-renowned poet and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Maya Angelou once said “How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!”
In an effort to help celebrate the many men and women who served this country, The Vicksburg Post is publishing a special section, featuring photos of veterans who live in Vicksburg, Warren County and the surrounding areas.
The section, will appear in the Veterans’ Day edition of The Post Tuesday, Nov. 11.
“It is important for us to always remember those who have served this country, and served it honorably,” Post Publisher Tim Reeves said. “It is commonly said that freedom is not free. That debt, that payment, was made by those who served in our armed forces.”
Anyone can submit a photo of a veteran to The Post or area veterans can visit the newspaper’s office, located at 1601-F Frontage Road in Vicksburg, on Thursday, Oct. 30 to have a portrait taken.
All of the photos submitted and those photos taken will appear in the special section.
“We want as many veterans to participate as possible. This is a great way for the newspaper and the community to recognize veterans for their service,” Reeves said.
The deadline to receive submitted photos and information is Thursday, Oct. 30.
As for photos at The Post, newspaper staff will be on hand from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to welcome as many veterans as possible.
