Rev. Henry Mayfield Sr.

The Rev. Henry Mayfield Sr., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at River Region Medical Center.
He was a member of New Mount Elem Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Leonard Walker. He had pastored Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Eagle Lake Community for 45 years and Mount Zion No. 4 in the Kings Community for 44 years at the time of his death. Past pastorates included El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Satartia for 16 years and Brookhaven Missionary Baptist Church in Flowers for 14 years.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m., at Greater Grove Street Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be noon Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at the Vicksburg Auditorium with the Rev. Casey Fisher as eulogist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Woodson Mayfield; siblings, Tommy Mayfield, Alma Snow, Flora Mayfield, Daniel Mayfield, Oscar Mayfield Sr., Arthur Mayfield Sr., Evelyn Hoskins, Elizabeth Gee and Nathan Mayfield; grandsons, Eric Mayfield and Jonquil Lee; nephew, Arthur L. Mayfield Jr.; mother-in-law and father-in law, George and Ruby Smith Sr.; sisters-in-law, Doris Odom, Josephine Mayfield and Mayola Mayfield; brothers-in law, George Smith Jr., Ernest Snow, Percy McDonald Sr., Perry Gee and John Hoskins.
His memories will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Dorothy Smith Mayfield; 13 children, Catherine (Rev. J. Ronzell) Maness of Augusta, Ga.; Mary Logan and Linda (Garland) Cary of Vicksburg; Vera Lawyer, Pensacola, Fla.; Henrietta Spates, Henry (Rosalyn) Mayfield Jr., Frances Lacey, Michael (Bertha) Mayfield Sr., Rev. Gregory (Lynniese) Mayfield, Harold (Sandra) Mayfield, Cynthia (Bill) Brown and Vincent Mayfield, all of Vicksburg, and Donald Mayfield Sr. of Bronx, N.Y.; sister, Louise McDonald of Greenwood; sisters-in-law, Katie Larry, Irene Mayfield, Pearl Thomas, Delores Harrington, Shirley Smith and Gladys Smith, all of Vicksburg; brothers-in-law, Willie Henry Smith and James Harrington of Vicksburg.
He is also survived by 30 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; the Rev. Luster Lacey, a devoted son-in-law (loved as a son); Walter Coleman, a devoted nephew (loved as a son); and other family members and friends.
