Dana Road Elementary School
• Kindergarten teacher, Christie Holder, received an $800 teacher grant from
• International Paper Foundation to purchase Kindergarten literacy center activities.
• Kindergarten and First grade music classes of Eleana Davis presented a
• Generation Free performed for the students.

Porters Chapel Academy
• Eager Eagle of the week in the first grade class of Rebecca Pace was Angel Lee-Kelley.
• Angel Lee-Kelley, Peyton Machen, and Garrett Reeves performed a Reader’s Theatre of the story Space Pup for the class.
• Students are classifying amphibians in conjunction with the story Where Do Frogs Come From?
• Students will complete a unit of study on the Pilgrims, Indians and the First Thanksgiving.
• Parent volunteers assisting and providing snacks and treats for Halloween were Brittany Gerard, Robin Cook, Jaime Machen, Bridget Jones, Vonder Lee, Kendra Mauldin, Stephanie Reeves, and Dena Daffron.

Scholastic Academy
• Most 8th Grade Students participated in a VFW Essay Contest; therefore, after
researching veterans, the students decided to have a Breakfast Bash for active duty
or veterans to show their appreciation for their service. The Breakfast Bash is
Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014. The students delivered their invitations.
• Thank you to all of the parents that have assisted with the Behavior Bash, and
Honor Roll Celebration; it was a huge success!
• Please remember to send in any items from the blue flier that will help assist us to
decorate our hallway with the Atlantis Theme.
• A new AR goal has been issued; ask your child what his or her goal is. Please
encourage your child to read since this will be a test grade at the end of the nine weeks.
Your child should obtain his or her point goal with at least 85 percent accuracy.

Sherman Avenue Elementary School
• All 1st-3rd grade students attended a concert by the MS Symphony Orchestra this week. Students were invited, free of charge, for this educational event at The Vicksburg Convention Center.
• Sherman Avenue would like to thank to school district, Convention Center, and the MS Symphony for a great performance.

• Faculty/Staff members Mrs. Natasha Morgan, Mrs. Heather Williams, Mrs. LaQuise Dixon, and Mrs. Paige Morgan were “thrown fish” for the week, in recognition of their behavior that best exemplified the Fish! Philosophies of play, make their day, be there, and choose your attitude.
• On Thursday evening, PTO and teacher/staff worked together to host “Falling Into Reading.” This event included dinner, a free book, and a fall carnival for students. All events were based on sight words, spelling words, phonics, ect. We would like to thank everyone that came and participated in the fun!

Vicksburg Intermediate School
• Pledge leaders for the week were Kaylin Carter, Jamson Thomas, Mason Watts, Asia Williams, Christopher Clarke, Ro’Mello Anderson, Uriah Robinson, Sterling Spivey, Lauren Carson, and Eric Wesley.
• PTO parent volunteers who sorted and passed out t-shirts were Chiquita Pendleton and Irma Love.
• A special thanks goes to parents who donated treats for the VIS staff: Marquita Smothers, Ida Williams, LaToya Minor, Jenny Vasquez, and Chiquita Pendleton.
• Science Fair Parent Night and GATOR Math Night are Monday, Nov. 10, starting at 5:30 p.m. Parents must attend with their students. Fifth and sixth grade students are required to complete a science fair project. Third and fourth grade students are encouraged to complete a project for the experience and the grade.
• Progress reports will be sent home in the weekly folder on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Parents need to sign the reports and return them to the homeroom teacher.
• Students will be involved in Case 21 testing the weeks of Nov. 10-14 and Nov. 17-20. Students will take the tests on the computer with multiple sessions during this two weeks. Because of testing, classes cannot be interrupted for early checkout.
• Reading fair projects are due Tuesday, Nov. 11. Judging will be Wednesday, Nov. 12. Projects are mandatory for all students.

Vicksburg Junior High
• The Vicksburg Junior High PTO sponsored “Picnic on the Patio” Behavior Bashes for the 7th and 8th grade students who exhibited exceptional behavior during the 1st Nine Weeks of school.
• Over 250 students were rewarded with hot dogs, chips, and punch served picnic style on the school’s patio.
• Waffle House District Manager, Randy Jones, along with Waffle House crew members cooked and served waffles to 7th and 8th grade students. The Waffle House breakfast was sponsored by the Vicksburg Junior High PTO to reward students for successfully meeting their Accelerated Reader Goals for the 1st Nine Week term.
• Vicksburg Junior High students who made the Honor Roll for the 1st Nine Week term were treated to an Honor Roll Bash sponsored by the Vicksburg Junior High PTO. Students enjoyed popcorn, cake, and punch as they viewed the movie “Divergent” in the library.

Warrenton Elementary School
• Happy Birthday to all faculty, staff, and students celebrating in Nov.!!

• Congratulations Quinton Powell and Brelynn Beck Warrenton’s All-State Honor Choir Members.
• Monday, Nov. 10th we will Honor Our Veterans. Students are allowed to wear red, white, and blue. Attire must be red, white, and/or blue. No other colors are permitted.
• CASE 21 Testing will be Nov. 10th –Nov. 21st. Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest, eats a healthy and fulfilling breakfast, and arrives to school on time.
• Progress Reports will go home on Wednesday, Nov. 12th.
• Reading Fair is Wednesday, Nov. 12th. Reading Fair is required for grades 3-6.
• Thursday, Nov. 13th students may wear a shirt and jeans for $1 each.
• Spirit Shirt orders are due by Friday, Nov. 14th. All orders must have an order form.
• Our Annual Fall Festival is Saturday, Nov. 15th from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. PTO is asking for the following items: Kindergarten-2nd grades cupcakes for the cupcake walk, 3rd and 4th grades 2 liter drinks for the ring toss, and 5th and 6th grades bags of candy for the fishing game. PTO will also be raffling a 50-inch TV at the Fall Festival. Any parents that would like to volunteer with concessions please contact PTO President, Charlene Ross at 601-415-1120. Thank you parents for your continued support.
• McTeacher Night is Monday, Nov. 17th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McDonald’s by Walmart. Please come out and show support.
• We are collecting food items for the Community Storehouse Food Pantry. Please send any non-perishable food items that can be donated for their food drive. All donations are greatly appreciated and will be accepted through Nov. 19th.
• Perfect Attendance free dress week will be Nov. 17th-21st. This is for all students that had perfect attendance for the month of Oct.. Notices will be sent home if your child received perfect attendance. Every student that has Perfect Attendance for the month of Nov. will earn a FREE DRESS WEEK in Dec..
• Fundraiser Pizza Party- All students that participated in the cookie dough fundraiser are invited to attend a pizza party on Thursday, Nov. 20th for grades K-3rd and Friday, Nov. 21st for grades 4-6th. Thanks again for your support parents.

Warren Central Intermediate School
• Reading Fair projects are due to teachers, Friday, Nov. 14, 2014.
• In Christina Hood’s 6th grade PBL class, students are completing their presidential research reports using MLA format. On Monday’s, students are learning Newton’s laws of motion and creating their own car.
• Two guinea pigs, including the cage and other necessary materials, were donated to the classroom a couple weeks ago. After filling out a job applications, students are having a wonderful time working in the classroom to take care of their guinea pigs. Students have named the pets Buttercup and Butterball. Also, the classroom composting bin is up and creating soil for the organic greenhouses. Although the greenhouses have been blown away twice, this third time seems to be charmed. The plants are growing and hopefully will be yielding fruit soon.

Warren Central Junior High School
• The 2014 Jr. Viking football team finished the season with a 7-0 record and are the Little Six Champions for the first time in 14 years! The defense was not scored on all year. The team is selling Krispy Kreme Donuts to raise money for award jackets and equipment. Contact any 8th grade football player or coach for information.
• The Warren Junior choir under the direction of Ruby Regan performed at the PTO meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
• A pep rally was held on Thursday, Nov. 6 for the basketball team.
• Boys Club is sponsoring a canned food drive. The homeroom that collects the most items will be treated to a pizza and wings party by Pizza Hut.
• Progress reports will be issued to all students on Nov. 12.
