The Salvation Army of Vicksburg is hoping to catch a little magic from the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge craze that swept across the country this summer.
The challenge raised millions of dollars for ALS research and brought awareness to a once largely unknown disease.
The Salvation Army has thrown down the proverbial kettle and as is challenging Vicksburg residents and businesses to ring the bell for one hour on designated days at Outlets at Vicksburg or donate to the Red Kettle campaign.
The goal is to raise $125,000 to meet the needs of the community.
The event begins today and continues through Dec. 13, and every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., people will be challenged to ring the Salvation Army bell at the Outlets or donate to the charity.
Individuals in Vicksburg can issue challenges to others to ring the bell or donate at least $5, while businesses will be asked to donate at least $100.
Every person and business who agrees to accept the challenge will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a $50 gift card.
The holiday season is here and awareness for the Salvation Army’s mission could not be higher.
The goal is easy to reach if we all pitch in, if you can’t come out to donate or ring the bell go online and donate at GoFundMe.com.
The Vicksburg Post has accepted the challenge and will be ringing the bell today during the tree lighting event at the outlets. Look for our challenge using hashtag #VicksburgChallenge. We might challenge you.
