John Berryman Scott Sr.

John Berryman Scott Sr., 83, of Vicksburg, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at River Region Hospital. 

He was born April 7, 1931, in Rose, Neb. to Leo V. and Sarah Berryman Scott. He had lived in Vicksburg since 1937.

Mr. Scott was a master electrician and worked for Heard Electric for many years. He also was the building manager for BancorpSouth Bank and served as president and director of the Culkin Water District from 1972 until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bovina for over 70 years, where served in many leadership roles, including senior warden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Randolph Paul Scott; his sisters, Carolyn Scott Kitchens and Edith Scott Miller; and a brother, James E. Scott.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margie Ahner Scott; his children, John B. Scott Jr. (Jane) of Collierville Tenn., Greg D. Scott (Frances) of Thompson Station, Tenn., and Beth S. Guynes (Terry) of Vicksburg, eight grandchildren, Laura (Jonathan) Hays, Andrew (Lauren) Scott, Kate (Jeramie) Ritchie, Matt (Lauren) Guynes,  Michael Guynes, Danielle Scott, Alex Scott, and Sam Scott, and eight great-grandsons, Jacob and Reid Hays, Campbell, Eli, and Grayson Ritchie, and Hayden, Carter, and Lucas Guynes.

He is also survived by his sisters, Alice Scott Pronger and Eleanor Scott Price of Vicksburg and Helen Scott Emrick of Winfield, Kansas, as well as other relatives.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bovina, with the Very Rev. Billie Abraham and Rev. Deacon Josie Williams officiating. Burial will be at St. Alban’s cemetery.

Visitation is today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Scott, Matt Guynes, Michael Guynes, Alex Scott, Sam Scott, Richard Price, Jim Price and Edward Douglas.
