Terry W. Slaughter

Terry W. Slaughter died Dec. 18, 2014, at his residence in Vicksburg. He was 86.
Mr. Slaughter was born August 21, 1928 to the late Dan Slaughter and Mary Lindo Slaughter in Elaine, Ark.
An usher, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Gospel Temple M.B. Church, he worked for Vicksburg Concrete Company until the 1970s and was retired from Mississippi Material Concrete Company. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Lodge #37, working under King Hiram Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Jackson. He received several awards, including a Key to the City from former Vicksburg mayor Robert Walker in 1999.
Terry and the former Modell Yancy were married by the Rev. E.D. Johnson on Dec. 9, 1946 in Warren County, Miss. Before his wife’s passing in 1988, they were married for 42 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Modell Yancy Slaughter; daughters, Georgia M. Pampley and Jerlene “Muchee” S. Patterson; brothers, Eddie Slaughter, Leon Slaughter and Sherman Clark; sisters, Sylverleen S. Taylor, Jettie B. Adams, Catherine S. Mitchell and Christine Smith; granddaughter, Tamara “Tam” Washington Hull.
Survivors include his two sons, Bennie Slaughter and Walter Crumb, both of Vicksburg; daughters, Ollie S. Brown, Jackel Slaughter, Linda Slaughter, Shirley S. Jones, all of Vicksburg; and Terrie S. James of Athens, Ga.; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including the Anderson-Murphy, Adams, Gray, Greene, Hunt, Davis, Little, Turner, Epps, Brooks, Mitchell, Burnett, Taylor, Washington, Slaughter, Yancy, Thompson and Larkins families.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Gospel Temple M.B. Church, 1612 Lane Street with the Rev. Walter Edley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 from 1-7 p.m. with family present from 6-7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
