Michael Blunt Sr. died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014 at his home Chesterfield, Va. He was 57.
Mr. Blunt was born Sept. 1, 1957, at Kuhn Memorial Hospital in Vicksburg to Jonah and Gladys Blunt, the seventh of nine children and the youngest of four sons. He attended Zion Travelers Baptist Church as a child.
He was educated in Vicksburg public schools, graduating from Vicksburg High School in 1975, and was active in the community, playing drums in the Vicksburg Junior High and Vicksburg High School marching bands. He attended Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio.
He went to Hampton, Va., in 1980 to be with his family and was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding for 33 years working as a ship rigger until he became ill and retired.
He was preceded in death by his father Jonah Blunt and a brother, Johnny Blunt.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie “Jay” Frazier-Blunt and a daughter, Shannon Frazier, both of Chesterfield, Va.; two sons, Michael Blunt Jr. and Cory Blunt, both of Hampton, Va.; a granddaughter; his mother; five sisters and two brothers, Estella Middleton, Alma Ann Williams, Shirley Snead and Benny Blunt, all of Hampton, Va., Jonas Blunt of Macon, Ga., Willie Mae Pruitt of Birmingham, Ala., Martha Ann McMurray of Detroit; and nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters- and brothers-in-law and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 1511 Lane St. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Visitation is today at the funeral home, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
