Bill Stanford of Vicksburg died Saturday Dec. 27, 2014 at home.
He was born Nov. 9, 1935 in Wayne County. After graduating from high school, he attended Wood Jr. College in Mathiston, where he met his wife of 57 years, Maxine Hopper Stanford. He transferred to San Diego State College in San Diego to further his education.
He had lived in Vicksburg since 1967 and retired from Borden Chemical Co. as plant manager in 1998. He owned WQBC, Mississippi’s oldest radio station and continued to work there until it was sold.
He was an active member of Hawkins United Methodist Church since 1968.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Dovie Walley Pitts, four brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Hopper Stanford; a daughter, Melody Currie-Barnes (Mike) of Vicksburg; a son, William Brent Stanford of Santa Fe, N.M., a grandson, Aaron Webb (Kristi) of Pearl; a great-granddaughter, Cooper Dylan Webb; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Hopper of Carrollton; one sister, Diane Mills (Tommy) of Steubenville, Ohio; one brother, Sam. J. Pitts (Jackie) of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Hawkins United Methodist Church Saturday, Jan.17, 2015, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hawkins United Methodist Church, 3736 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to a favorite charity.
