A Vicksburg man accused of attacking another man with a handsaw and injuring a preteen was held without bail Monday.
Levi Branch III, 22, 1414 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., was arrested Sunday night and charged with aggravated assault in an attack that injured a 37-year-old and a 12-year-old, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
The names of the attack victims were not released.
Branch is accused of assaulting the man and the boy before 5:45 p.m. Sunday at a mobile home park on Berryman Road, Pace said.
Branch was not at home when deputies arrived, but witnesses said he and the adult victim had been in an argument.
“They said Branch picked up a large glass object and hit the adult victim in the head and then picked up a hand saw and began assaulting him with the handsaw,” Pace said.
When deputies arrived, they found the man had lacerations to the head and neck and what appeared to be defensive wounds on both hands, Pace said. It was unclear if the 12-year-old was injured with broken glass or the saw. Both were taken to River Region Medical Center where they were treated and discharged.
Later in the night, Branch returned to the scene of the fight and was arrested, Pace said.
“He too was taken to River Region. When deputies located him, he had a laceration above his eye that he suffered during the fight,” Pace said.
Branch will most likely be ineligible to post bail in the assault case. He was released on bail Jan. 5 after being arrested and charged with receiving stolen property by Vicksburg police. Offenders who are out of jail on bail typically are not eligible to post bail in new offenses.
