Earl Humphreys Moore, “Sonny”

PORT GIBSON — Earl Humphreys Moore, “Sonny,” of Port Gibson, died Jan. 31, 2015, at home due to complications from cancer.

Born March 20, 1936, to William Earl and Bonnie Brown Moore in Vicksburg, Sonny graduated from Port Gibson High School (Class of 1954) and served in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician. He was stationed in Nevada and Iceland. Upon returning home from his military service, Sonny enrolled in the University of Mississippi, and he graduated with a degree in business administration.

After graduating college, Sonny returned home to Port Gibson and began his career in the plastics manufacturing industry. Sonny married Linda Wheeless in 1963 and they had one daughter, Polly. After a 36-year career in the manufacturing industry, Sonny retired as president of National Plastics Inc. and a board member of Perstorp, AB.

His hobbies included amateur radio operator (K5QBQ), gardening, hunting, fishing and cattle ranching.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Linda W. Moore; daughter, Polly Moon; grandson Carlton; granddaughter, Linnie; brother, William Moore (Lynn); nephews, David Smith (Judy), Brian Moore, David Moore (Christina), Blake Moore (Valerie); nieces, Amy Fowler (Donald); Melissa Prunzik (Jeff); and other family members.

Services were 11 a.m. today, Feb. 2, 2015 at the Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Visitation was at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
