PORT GIBSON — Emma Brandon died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at the Claiborne County Medical Center in Port Gibson. She was 95.
Mrs. Brandon was a teacher for over 63 years and taught at the Egypt School in Russum, Beechland Church Public School and Alcorn Miller Elementary School, and served in the Claiborne County School District for over 40 years.
She was a member and choir member at Beechland M.B. Church, a member of Delta Chi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., the Claiborne County Baptist Association, Baptist Aid, Jacob Court No. 22 of Heron of Jericho, Port Heron Chapter No. 91 of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Will Brandon; a son, Arthur Brandon Sr.; eight brothers, Allen Jones, Ira Jones, Sebron Jones, Willie Jones, Eddie Duffin, Horace Duffin, Kelly Duffin and Henry Paige; five sisters, Bessie Brandon, Corine Jones, Pauline Jones, Leola Williams and Martha Brandon; and a grandson, Eric Hyder.
Suvivors include a brother, Nathaniel “Nathan” Jones of Port Gibson; a daughter-in-law; special granddaughter; seven grandsons; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 11a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, at Beechland M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating. Burial will be in McCay Cemetery in Lorman under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.
Visitation is today, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home with family hour from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
