Roxie Florine Riner Burford

GREENVILLE — Graveside services for Roxie Florine Riner Burford, 84, of Vicksburg, formerly of Greenville, were 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Greenville. She died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg.

Boone Funeral Home of Greenville had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Burford was born in Judsonia, Ark., the daughter of Veron L. and Florine Overstreet Riner. Throughout her life they lived in various states of the southern and southwestern United States eventually settling in Greenville.

She graduated from Greenville High School and then met and married Onnie Braxton “O.B.”  Burford Jr. on July 2, 1950. They worked in conjunction with Mr. Burford’s brothers and their wives to found and then operate Burford Brother’s Printing Co., retiring after its closure in the early 2000s.

Mrs. Burford was a member of First United Methodist Church of Greenville where she was active in the choir, taught Sunday school and in earlier years taught kindergarten.

She was preceded in death by O.B., her husband of 57 years; a son, Robert Lee Burford; two sisters, Mildred Long and Patricia LaMastus; and a brother, Vernon Riner Jr.

She is survived by a son, William Thomas Burford and his wife Dr. Sandra Burford of Vicksburg; a daughter, Rebecca Dye and her husband Walter of Batesville; three grandchildren, Lindsey Dye Sartain of Brandon, William Braxton Burford of Evergreen, Colo., and Kathleen Elizabeth Bartsch of Spartanburg, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Sartain and Skyler Paul Burford.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to First United Methodist Church, Greenville.
