As North Mississippi braces for a possible winter storm Warren County is on the southern edge of an area likely to see brief snowfall.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 40 percent chance of ran and snow Tuesday, but with a predicted high of 40, it’s unlikely the snow will stick around any significant amount of time.
New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible, according to the weather services.
The chance of snow follows a certain chance of rain Monday and a 70 percent chance of rain Sunday night. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 40s, but will dip to freezing Monday night.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is coordinating advance response actions as it becomes clearer that a winter storm will affect the state beginning Sunday night as a cold front moves through. While the exact forecast is still developing, the National Weather Service believes snow; freezing rain and sleet are all probable for north and some parts of central Mississippi.
“We don’t take any potential winter storm emergency lightly in this state,” said Gov. Phil Bryant.
MEMA will activate the State Emergency Operations Center at 10 p.m. Sunday to monitor and respond to any requests for assistance. The Mississippi Department of Transportation is already pre-treating highways,
