Walnut Hills serves up some of the best southern fare in town and the restaurant’s warm and inviting atmosphere makes is a regular go-to-spot for locals.

It was this combination of food and friendliness that has earned Walnut Hills a listing on an international website that highlights local and global cultural recommendations and information.

“They called us and said they loved the restaurant,” said Joyce Clingan, the owner of the restaurant.

Clingan said she was unaware of any presence from Culture Trip when they visited her restaurant, but writer Sophia White, gave Walnut Hills rave reviews.

“Minute details such as the hot pepper sauce bottles, rockers and whiskey bottles give the restaurant much charm. The food makes the trip worthwhile, and their eponymous fried chicken is supposedly world-famous,” White wrote.

With more than 1,500,000 monthly readers from around the world, culturetrip.com is a one-stop digital platform for global culture and lifestyles.

Winning Best Lunch, Best Dessert and Best Home Cooking from The Vicksburg Post, Walnut Hills is no stranger to being listed as a top restaurant.

Clingan said it never gets old to be recognized as a restaurant favorite.

“We are so humble by it. I’m so thankful and give all the glory to God,” she said.

Along with its honors from The Vicksburg Post and culturetrip.com, Clingan said they have also just been listed as one of the top ten places to eat on the Deep South USA website.

Clingan is an active board member of Vicksburg Main Street and the Vicksburg Convention, and said she thinks being listed on the websites helps everyone in town.

“Anything we can add to the city of Vicksburg that will get tourist to stay one more day is positive,” she said.

Local resident Brent Cappaert said he and his family dine regularly at Walnut Hills.

“I have been coming here all my life,” said Cappaert, “and now I like bringing my son here too.”

“It’s the first restaurant we brought him to,” said Lauren Cappaert, referring to son Graham, 3.

Clingan said Walnut Hills uses the freshest foods available, buying as many fresh vegetables as possible.

Patricia Daniel and her sister Debra Williams said they have been eating at Walnut Hills since it opened.

“We come about every two months,” said Williams.

“The quality of food and service is excellent,” she said.

Bill and Sue Flathau said they are also regulars at Walnut Hills.

“We come on a regular basis — on Sundays and during the week,” said Bill Flathau.

“It’s good fellowship at Walnut Hills. We see friends and will meet new people,” said Sue Flathau.

Her husband added, “It’s where we can get good home-cooked food.”
