PORT GIBSON — R.V. Barnes died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Claiborne County Medical Center in Port Gibson. He was 97.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Quilly and Leanna Lewis-Edwards; six sisters, Adale Johnson, Leanna Tarleton, Lavinia Edwards, Willie B. Coleman, Mary Lee Edwards and Thelma Walker; three brothers, Veronia Edwards, D.C. Edwards, and Topeta Edwards; her son-in-law, Walter West and two grandchildren, Peggy West Warren and James Henry West.
Survivors include a daughter, Mattie T. West of Port Gibson; two sisters, Essie King of Madison, Fla., and Nortickle Kendrick of Washington, D.C.; 10 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services will be 11a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Welcome Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James H. Buck officiating. Burial will be at Barnes Family Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.
Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home, and Saturday at the church from 10a.m. until the service.
