FCS students bridge the gap between school and industry

Various students from Vicksburg High School were able to experience what it would be like to work in broadcast journalism at WLBT 3/FOX 40 news.
Students from Vicksburg High School’s Family and Consumer Science class experienced the the inner workings of a newsroom. These students were afforded the opportunity to go behind the scenes of WLBT 3/FOX 40 News Studios in Jackson, MS
During their visit, Joy Redmond, renowned news reporter allowed students to sit behind the news desk and read actual news clips of leading stories in the local areas.
Vicksburg High School freshman Nick Murrell said he had never really consider a career in journalism before.
“It actually felt good,” he said. “ It made me realize that this might just be a career I need to take a closer look at.”
Cheryl Rankin said in an effort to expose students to a variety of possible careers, the students of the FCS class will travel to The Mississippi Baking Company located in Pelahatchie.
All visits are geared toward exposing students to diverse career paths, she said.
