Donald Curry Rosamond

Donald Curry Rosamond left this life on March 7, 2015, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 64 years old.
Mr. Rosamond was born on Oct. 8, 1950, to E.C. (Eddie) Rosamond and Barbara Moffitt Rosamond of Kosciusko. He lived with his parents and grandparents, Estel Curry Rosamond and Doris Jenkins, in Ware, Miss. until they relocated to Jackson when he was a small child.
He graduated from Wingfield High School in 1968 and attended Mississippi State University. Upon graduating from college in 1973, he was commissioned through the ROTC program to the United States Army, where he attended Field Artillery School and Rotary Flight School from 1973-1976.
He was stationed in many places, including Ft. Benning, Ga.; Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; Ft Rucker, Ala.; Ft. Campbell, Ky. and Korea. In 1976, he met and married Margaret Lee Walsh of Jackson, with whom he had three children, Matt, Jonathan, and Caryn.
He was honorably discharged as a Major from the Army in 1980, and then went to work for Hinds General Hospital in Logistics. In 1981, he joined the Army National Guard where he was an auditor. Upon retiring from the Army National Guard in 1994, Don worked for Methodist Hospital in security until finding his home at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson in 2000, where he worked security for the church and First Presbyterian Day School. He retired from First Presbyterian Church in 2013 as Director of Security.
He met his wife, Carolyn Brewer of Vicksburg, in 2010 and was married in 2011.
After retirement, Don enjoyed traveling with his new bride around the Southeast and even traveled to Moffitt, Scotland to trace their family lineage.
Don was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. He never met a stranger and was known to be capable of making friends in any situation. He was a member of First Baptist Church Vicksburg.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, E.C. Rosamond and Barbara Moffitt
Fields; and a stepbrother, Roy Magee.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his son Matt Rosamond and wife, Jennifer, of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; his son, Jonathan Rosamond, of Starkville; his daughter Caryn Stribling (John-Michael), of Madison; stepdaughters Tracye Hogan; Kimberly Cain and husband Hank; Kiely McKellar (Jason); stepsons David Brewer (Allison); and Ben Brewer; stepmother, Jean Rosamond; two stepsisters, Kim Lockhart (Wayne), both of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and CJ Breland (Frank), of Asheville, N.C.; a stepbrother, Todd Rosamond (Karen), of Jackson; Charles Carter (Barbara) of Madison, Wis.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services with full military honors will be held at Riles Funeral Home on Friday, March 13. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., with a service to follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, a private family burial will take place at Wren Cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, the Rosamond family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or a charity of your choice.
Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Rosamond, Jonathan Rosamond, John-Michael Stribling, Todd Rosamond, David Brewer, Jason McKellar, Bob Stoll, and Lee Davis.
