In honor of Warren Central’s 50th anniversary, the school’s show choir, Total Sound, will be performing songs from the past five decades, including “I’m a Believer,” “Thriller” and “Footloose.”
Total Sound’s After Dinner Theatre with an all-you-can-eat dessert buffet will be Tuesday, April 14, in the WC auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any member of Total Sound or Madrigals, the choir directors or at the door.
All proceeds from the show will be given to the Wallace family to provide relief for medical bills incurred through treatment of Afton Wallace, a former member of Total Sound, who was diagnosed with cancer.
Director Nancy Robertson said the show involves singing and dancing with a heavier focus on singing.
“We’ve been trying to find a venue to support Afton Wallace all year long, and this is the perfect venue to support her,” she said.
Tori Ross, 17, a junior, said she was in Total Sound with Wallace last year.
“I remember when she got sick, her having to sit out during practice,” she said. “When we did the Total Sound show Afton did the whole first half, and she sang in the pit for the second half. She always keeps going and tries to accomplish everything she sets her mind to. It’s an honor to do this and honor her.”
Ross said Total Sound has really grown this year thanks to recruiting efforts.
“This is the first year I’ve really been excited to come to Total Sound practice because we have a new director, Mr. (Eric) Johnson, and all of our songs are really fun and upbeat,” she said. “We’re not just in one general category of music. We’re covering all of the music from the past decades since it’s our 50th of Warren Central.”
Conner Ferguson, 17, a senior, joined Total Sound this year but said he wishes he would have joined sooner.
“I regret not being involved in choir and the musical until this year,” he said. “I’ve never been in any sort of choir or musical or play, and this year I joined Total Sound, and I got one of the major roles in the musical.”
Ferguson said this has been one of the most fun things he’s ever done.
“It’s kind of given me direction,” he said. “I’ve always been really, really, really interested in music. I play several instruments: guitar, ukulele and piano.”
Ferguson said he plans to attend the University of Mississippi and either major or minor in music.
“It’s given me some direction in life,” he said. “It made me more focused on what I want to do.”
Ross said she is making a chocolate covered banana cake and a raspberry cheesecake.
Some other desserts include pralines, caramel cheesecake, flambé, red velvet cake, chocolate covered strawberries and fruit.
