Charles E. Hudson

Charles E. Hudson died May 1, 2015, at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg. He was 68.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Hudson was the son of Essie Hudson and the grandson of the late Bertha Clark.

He was a member of the last graduating class of St. Mary’s High School in 1964, and joined the United States Armed Services, serving in the Vietnam War in military intelligence.

He was honorably discharged in 1967 and joined the U.S. Army Reserves for several years. He lived in Vicksburg and was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and later the Department of Defense until he retired in 1994. During his employment, he earned several awards for outstanding performance.

He was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church.

Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bertha Clark.

Survivors include his mother, Essie Hudson of Vicksburg; sister, Barbara Hudson Smith of Chicago; three daughters, Yolanda Renee Lewis, Ashley Hudson and Leslie Newton, all of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; two nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas E. Bernard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2015, at the funeral home from 1 to 6 p.m. with family present from 5 to 6 p.m.
