A Tallulah, La., man accused of killing another man in the crowded parking lot of a Vicksburg night club will stand trial in November for murder and a weapons charge.

Kentrell Williams, 22, 113 Pecan St., Tallulah, appeared in court Friday afternoon for arraignment following indictment this week by a Warren County grand jury.

Williams’ court appointed attorney Lane Campbell entered a not guilty plea on his client’s behalf.

Circuit Judge M. James Chaney set trial for Nov. 30. Williams is set to next appear in court Nov. 5 during a pre-trial hearing.

If convicted at trial, Williams faces life in prison.

Williams appeared in an orange Warren County Jail jumpsuit and made no statements during the hearing other than to advise Chaney he had not hired an attorney.

He is accused of killing Jimmy Johnson, 32, of Tallulah, in the early morning hours of Feb. 8, 2015 outside LD’s restaurant and Lounge on Mulberry Street, District Attorney Ricky Smith said.

The weapon believed to have been used in the killing was a Glock pistol, Smith said. Williams was convicted in 2014 of illegal use of a weapon in Madison Parish, leading to a charge of possession of a weapon after felony conviction, according to court records.

Police have said Johnson was shot outside the door to the nightclub as police were responding to another call there.

Johnson was shot at about 2:05 a.m., and died at about an hour later at River Region Medical Center, Chief Walter Armstrong has said.

The homicide was the first reported in Vicksburg in 2015.

This week, 34-year-old Derrick Ramone Hall, 2200 Short Main St., was arrested and charged in the stabbing death of 31-year-old Kathryn Peacock at her home, 1224 Grammar St. Police have released no apparent motive in the stabbing.

Hall’s case is expected to be presented to the May term of the Warren County grand jury.
