“This young man was taking advantage of an older couple that was one of his neighbors,” Sheriff Martin Pace said. “He could see their house and knew when they left for work. “It’s unfortunate that they have a thief that lives within sight of their home.”

Lyons is accused of braking into the home of Elmer and Roberta Nielsen on Fisher Ferry Road four times between Feb. 13 and March 31. After posting bail on four counts of burglary, he broke into the home again, this time with several other men wearing masks. One was dressed as Spider-man, according to photos taken by the Nielsen’s wildlife camera.

“He has no respect for the neighborhood or people in the neighborhood,” Roberta Nielsen said.

The couple has lived in their home on Fisher Ferry Road for 41 years and hadn’t had any problems until the recent string of break-ins.

“We never, ever thought about a security system,” Nielsen said. “It never crossed my mind.”

The indictment against Lyons says he stole guns, jewelry, a Civil War knife collection, a camera and a bottle of cologne, among other items.

“There were several pieces you can’t put a price tag on. The wedding rings my husband gave me 50 years ago, you can’t replace that,” Roberta Nielsen said.
