SARASOTA, Fla. — Mary Jo McCormack passed away quietly at her daughters’ home in Sarasota May 25, 2015.
Mary Jo was born June 24, 1933, in Vicksburg to Sidney Preston and Gleneva Floyd.
She was a proud graduate of Carr Central High School with the class of 1951, and worked for the telephone company in Vicksburg as well as Merchant’s Bank.
In December 1953, she married Pat McCormack, and over the next 19 years moved across the country several times with McDonnell Douglas during the Apollo space program, settling in Titusville, Fla., in 1972. She was an active member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church for over 40 years and was a Eucharistic Minister.
Mary Jo’s passion was quilting, and she eagerly made quilts for countless family and friends. She enjoyed travelling with family and friends, attending local plays and concerts, and as an avid reader, meeting with the Shangri La book club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Pat; and a brother, Sidney Preston Floyd Jr. of Vicksburg.
She is survived by daughters, Patti Sharek of Sarasota and Kelly McCormack and companion Julienne Waldo of Marco Island, Fla.; and a son, Bill and daughter-in-law Kim McCormack of Los Angeles, Calif. She had three grandchildren, Ryan Pieper, Patrick and Megan McCormack; and one great-grandson, Liam Michael Pieper; her sister Peggy Flanagan of Vicksburg; along with nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church.
