Leo L. Steen

Leo L. Steen died Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Promise Hospital of Vicksburg. He was 88.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he returned to Vicksburg and was employed for 30 years with the Hydraulics and Soils Division at Water Ways Experiment Station.
Mr. Steen was preceded in death by his parents, Pleasant L. Steen and Cleo Stifle Steen; one brother, John William Steen; three sisters, Faye Jacks, Rea Dubuisson and Betty Gillis; one son, Glenn Steen; and a granddaughter, Sarah Steen.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose Marie Templeton Steen; one son, Leo Mark Steen; a daughter, Gail Kavanaugh (Kelly); three granddaughters, Mary McLeod (Sean), Kimberly Wallace (Josh) and Jessica Steen, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Dorothy Stallings of Baton Rouge, La., and Jane Kennedy of Boswell, Pa.; one brother, Gene Steen (Louise) of Hermanville; a brother-in-law, Jack Gillis of Vicksburg; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Austin Gibson, Chris Gillis, David Gillis, Mike Gillis, Brennan McLeod, Bill Stallings, Randy Templeton and Tim Wright. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Neely, Dr. Walter Johnston and the staff of Promise Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2015, at Vicksburg Church of Christ with Les Ferguson Sr. and Wade Hammack, officiating. Burial will be in Yokena Cemetery, and visitation will be at the church at 10 a.m. Friday until the service hour.
Visitation also will be Thursday, June 18, 2015, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home.
