Miss Mississippi Hannah Roberts, Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Grace Post and Shape Up Sisters will be joining forces to host a Zumba class to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Monday, July 20, at 5 p.m.
The cost to participate is $5 for members and $15 nonmembers and all ages are invited to attend, Post said.
“We would appreciate anyone who wants to come support Children’s Miracle Network,” she said.
Post said each of the girls have to raise $500, but any money on top of that is an added bonus.
“I have already raised $500 with the Newk’s fundraiser that was held during Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen week,” she said. “We’re just trying to do the most we can for Children’s Miracle Network.”
Roberts said the event was already in place before she was crowned, but she is excited to participate.
“These are hospitals that provide services to children in need with big medical problems,” she said. “These are donations we are raising that will directly impact children not only in Mississippi but in the rest of the country.”
Roberts said she’s not a dancer but she does enjoy Zumba.
“I’ve taken a class before and I really do enjoy,” she said. “It’s really easy to learn even if you’ve never done it. I was able to pick it up and I’m definitely not dance oriented. It’s a really fun exercise.”
Shape Up Sisters founder Linda Fondren said her organization is honored to be able to help.
“I got involved in it because I really think it’s a great opportunity for the community to make a difference and support both Miss Mississippi and Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen,” she said. “We can make miracles happen when the community comes out to give Miss Mississippi and Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen.”
The event is a great opportunity to help make a difference in kids’ lives, Fondren said of Children’s Miracle Network.
“It’s so important just to see the kids walk, talk and the smiles on their faces,” she said. “This is what we do; we make miracles happen.”
Fondren said she hopes the community comes out and shows its support.
