Eddy Alan Cook was born Dec. 1, 1955, in Bolton, the third of four children born to the late Jenny Lee Ellis Cook and Sammie Buford Cook Sr., and was a graduate of Rebul Academy, Learned, in the Class of 1974.
Mr. Cook died Aug. 9, 2015, at the age of 59 at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson after an extended illness.
During the earliest years of Eddy’s career, he held positions with various companies in the industrial manufacturing, automotive and agricultural fields, including several years with Gray’s Flying Service in Edwards.
He married Martha Elizabeth Fancher of Edwards in 1977. Beth and Eddy lived in the Brownsville Community, later moving to Edwards before moving to Vicksburg in 1982.
A commercial artist, Beth managed a commercial print shop in Vicksburg, where Eddy joined her as a press operator. The couple purchased the business in November 1983. Eddy’s mother-in-law became a partner in the business in 1984, making it a family-owned and operated print shop.
Imprints Graphics and Printing Center relocated to 1708 Clay St. upon the purchase of a circa 1904 building remodeled for commercial use in 1985 where the print shop operated until December 2008, closing due to the declining health of both Eddy and Beth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jenny Lee Ellis Cook and Sammie Buford Cook Sr.; one sister, Sylvia Anne Cook; and one brother, Evans Lance Cook.
Eddy leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 38 years, Martha Elizabeth “Beth” Cook; brother, Sammie Buford Cook Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Starlet Russell Cook, Cheryl Elizabeth Cook and Nancy Fancher McClain; brother-in-law, James Michael McClain; and his parents-in-law, Fant G. and Martha H. Fancher; and nieces, nephews, and aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A gathering to celebrate Eddy’s life will be Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edwards United Methodist Church on Jackson Street.
Memorials may be made to Palmer Home, Columbus, for the benefit of orphaned/abused children or the Mississippi Sheriffs’ Association Boys and Girls Ranches.
