Vivian Hughes Farmer, 95, of Vicksburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sept. 1, 2015, after passing away at Heritage House Nursing Home.

She was best known for being a true southern lady. She was an excellent cook, a faithful friend and devoted to her church and family.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home, and Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. until the service at 10, followed by interment at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers are C.W. and Katherine Tucker, Jan Greer, and members of the First Presbyterian Church.

Vivian was born June 1, 1920, to Kathryn Farr and John Hughes in Port Gibson.

In 1938, she married Charles McBride. They moved to Vicksburg in 1943, where they had two sons, Charlie and Jim. After 31 years of marriage, Charles passed away in 1970.

Vivian married Adolph A. “Buddy” Ludke in 1975, who preceded her in death in 1986.  She then married W. H. “Willie” Farmer in 1987, who preceded her in death in 1993.

She is remembered by many for managing both the Halls Ferry Road Elementary and the H.V. Cooper High cafeterias. She also worked at the Versil’s Gift and Bridal shop.

She was a faithful lifelong Presbyterian, and was recognized in 2003 for her church service with an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women U.S.A.  She loved living in Vicksburg, the people of Vicksburg, and enjoyed a good game of bridge with her friends.

She is survived by sons Charles L. McBride (Kitty) of Louisville Ky., and James H. McBride (Stan Graner) of Dallas; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and members of the Ludke and Farmer families.

The family wishes to thank the Heritage House Retirement and Assisted Living Center for the excellent care she received. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to the general fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 1501 Cherry St., Vicksburg MS 39180.
