Vicksburg High’s volleyball renaissance continued Tuesday, as the Missy Gators won three straight games after dropping the first to beat Provine 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23) in Jackson.
Mikayla Banks served nine aces, while Destiny Allen had eight assists for Vicksburg, which improved its record to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in region play. Alicia Howard added four kills and Jade Douglas seven digs.
The five wins are the most in a season in the five-year history of Vicksburg’s volleyball program. It’ll host Greenville Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Missy Gators are in third place in Class II, Region 5, behind Ridgeland. The top two teams in each region advance to the playoffs, and Vicksburg is trying to get there for the first time in school history.
“Each day we set different goals. I’ve set goals they can reach, and it’s helped them in the long run,” Vicksburg coach Aimee Scribner said. “The goals they’re reaching might get them into the playoffs.”
