A recap of fall high school sports in Warren County

It’s the time of the year where long hot days turn into cool breezy temperatures and when high school fall sports come to an end.
While some are still in session and will crossover with other winter sports like basketball, it’s been a pretty good season for athletics in the Vicksburg and Warren County.
Warren Central is at the top of the football supreme and continue to show everybody in the state they are a force to be reckoned with.
They went into Madison Central’s field and held them to only one touchdown and no extra points. The game had eyes on it from all over the state and the Vikings handled the pressure.
They started out with a sour taste with a loss to Wayne County and have since brushed, rinsed and flossed the loss out of their locker room.
After a brief change to a different conference, St. Aloysius fast-pitch softball had a curve ball thrown its way when they only had a couple of days to begin their season. The Lady Flashes had to overcome a depleted roster and molding a young crop of talented players, but fell short at the end. The Lady Flashes team has nothing to feel sorry for and did the best they could, given their circumstances.
Sticking with the Lady Flashes, it was the first time in the history of the school the soccer team won a state championship and doing so with an undefeated record.
It’s amazing what the volleyball programs at Warren Central and Vicksburg High School have gone through in five short years.
Today, the Lady Vikes will be playing in their first ever playoff game and are taking a group of talented young ladies to face off against DeSoto Central. The team had an overall record of 12-14 and has spawned some Mississippi Impact players as well. Taylor Smith & Sydney Stuart made the 16-year-old division and Kayla Mayfield is in her second go-round with the team in the 18-year-old division.
The Missy Gators competed to a .500 record, but that in it of itself has been an historic accomplishment for the team. The team was never able to win a game, let alone a match before playing against Canton in August.
The girls even went on a three game winning streak twice. I’ve seen players like Destiny Allen, Elishisa Howard, Mikayla Banks and Jade Douglas improve and hone their skills this season to become solid volleyball players.
I personally know how much coaches Matt Gullett and Aimee Scribner appreciate the work their girls put in to being a better player and student.
I can’t wait to continue to witness the accomplishments of Warren County high school sports.
