Adult basketball league

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult men’s and women’s basketball league will begin Nov. 16 and continue through Dec. 28. Registration packets can be picked up at the Jackson Strett Community Center or the Parks and Recreation offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive starting on Nov. 16. Games will begin Jan. 11.

The registration fee is $125 per team, plus a $10 fee for non-city residents. Team fees will not exceed $175. There will be a mandatory coaches meeting Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office.

The Vicksburg High School varsity boys and girls track teams will hold tryouts on Nov. 18 and 19 at Memorial Stadium, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. each day.

The tryouts are open to all students in grades 9-12, and interested athletes must sign up the week of Nov. 9-13. Sign-up sheets are located near Office B, in the cafeteria area. Athletes must wear running shoes and running clothes to the tryouts, have a completed physical form, and be present on both days of tryouts.

Junior Gators win two

The Vicksburg Junior High boys basketball won its first two games of the season this week, beating Huey Porters 55-19 and Warren Central 54-44.

Peytin Jackson scored 19 points and Christopher Henderson 15 in the win over Huey Porters on Oct. 31. Against Warren Central on Nov. 2, Jackson scored 12 points and Nicholus Council a game-high 21 for the Junior Gators.

Fall tennis program

The City of Vicksburg’s youth fall tennis program is under way at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The program will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 5 to 6 p.m., and is free. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

Freeze to speak in Jackson

Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze will be the featured speaker Monday at the Jackson Touchdown Club’s weekly meeting. The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. at River Hills Club in Jackson. Admission is $30 for non-members and guests.

AJGT golf tournament

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the AJGT Farm d’Allie Fall Junior Classic on Nov. 21 and 22 at the Farm d’Allie Golf Club in Carencro, La.

The entry fee for the two-day, 36-hole tournament is $185 and includes green fees, tee gifts and trophies in four age divisions. The entry deadline is Nov. 19 at noon.
