Adult basketball league

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult men’s and women’s basketball league will begin Monday and continue through Dec. 28. Registration packets can be picked up at the Jackson Street Community Center or the Parks and Recreation offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive starting on Monday. Games will begin Jan. 11.

The registration fee is $125 per team, plus a $10 fee for non-city residents. Team fees will not exceed $175. There will be a mandatory coaches meeting Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation office. For information, call 601-634-4514.

VHS track tryouts

The Vicksburg High School varsity boys and girls track teams will hold tryouts on Nov. 18 and 19 at Memorial Stadium. The tryouts are open to all students in grades 9-12, and interested athletes must sign up this week. Athletes must wear running shoes and running clothes to the tryouts, and have a completed physical form.

VHS bus trip to Oxford

A charter bus will be available for Vicksburg High students wanting to ride to Friday’s football playoff game at Oxford. The cost is $12 for the bus ride and $10 for a game ticket, and there are only 50 seats available. The bus will leave at 2 p.m. from the Vicksburg High fieldhouse, and students with excessive tardiness, out of school or in school detention will not be permitted ride. The deadline to buy tickets is Thursday. A sign-up sheet is available in Office A at Vicksburg High School.

Fall tennis program

The City of Vicksburg’s youth fall tennis program is under way at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The program will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 5 to 6 p.m., and is free.

Big Boy Basketball tournament

Kings Empowerment Center will host the Big Boy Basketball Tournament on Sunday. The tournament is for players ages 18 and over, and is single-elimination. Games start at 3 p.m. and admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 18. For information, call 601-634-4788.

Freshman Gators win

The Vicksburg High ninth-grade boys basketball team rallied from 10 points down in the fourth quarter Monday to beat Pearl, 42-35. Jaymeson Norfort led the Gators with 10 points, Leonard Sims scored nine and Antonio Calvin seven.

Vicksburg will go on the road Thursday to play Sumner Hill in Clinton.

AJGT golf tournament

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the AJGT Farm d’Allie Fall Junior Classic on Nov. 21 and 22 at the Farm d’Allie Golf Club in Carencro, La.

The entry fee for the two-day, 36-hole tournament is $185 and includes green fees, tee gifts and trophies in four age divisions. The entry deadline is Nov. 19 at noon. For more information or to register, visit arrowheadjgt.com.
