Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen is among the candidates who have interviewed for the vacant head coaching position at the University of Miami, according to several reports.

Mullen, recently fired Georgia coach Mark Richt, former Miami coach Butch Davis, and former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano have all been interviewed by Miami since its season ended Friday. The Orlando Sun-Sentinel first reported the news Tuesday evening, and several other media outlets have since confirmed it.

Mullen is 54-35 in seven seasons at Mississippi State. ESPN reported today that Mullen had interviewed with Miami within the past 24 hours.

Mullen was in Jackson on Tuesday night for the Conerly Trophy presentation — his quarterback, Dak Prescott, won it for the second consecutive year — and declined to address the reports.

“I’m not talking about any of that,” Mullen told Jackson’s WJTV-TV. “Every year I come here, every single year you guys ask me the same questions. I’m not going to waste time commenting on rumors on the Internet.”

Mullen signed a four-year contract extension in February that will give him a raise to $4.275 million beginning next year. Miami is reportedly offering its next coach about $4 million per year.

Mullen reiterated how he deals with these questions every year at this event.

“A couple years ago, I was here at dinner while I was signing a contract at Penn State and then the next year I was in Colorado and like four or five different cities in one day when I was sitting here at this award,” Mullen said. “So it’s the exact same thing.”
