Santa Claus works hard year round

He’s made his list and checked it twice, but truly believes no child is naughty and all are nice.
Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas or good old-fashioned Santa Claus believes the spirit of Christmas is all about giving, love, charity and magic. Although he’s been seen in Vicksburg at the outlet mall and in the Christmas parade, Santa has been hard at work all year to deliver joy to children around the world.
The most common gifts he’s been asked for range from the technology side to traditional, simpler toys such as remote controlled cars and monster trucks.
“My older kids, I don’t know what it is with these selfie sticks but it seems to be a popular thing nowadays,” Santa said. “The American Girl doll and all of a sudden drones are getting real popular. Most of them are all into the technology.”
Santa wants to fulfill the wishes of every child but sometimes parents have the final say so, especial when it comes to pets.
For those who’ve ever wondered or thought of how stressful it might be for Santa, his elves, Rudolph and the other host of reindeer to distribute toys around the world, Santa said it’s not as hard as it seems.
“It’s a piece of cake. Preparing for all of the things that go on, on Christmas Eve is a lot of the hard work. But when Christmas Eve gets here that’s where all of the magic happens. That’s when reindeers fly and time stops. Christmas Eve is the fun part,” Santa said.
Of course, a lot of his work is made easier with the help of the one and only Mrs. Claus and he couldn’t do it without her. The time leading up can be filled with many setbacks and problems, but Santa finds comfort in knowing he has someone who loves the spirit and magic of Christmas as much as he does.
Mrs. Claus also helps keep an eye on the elves, since they can get a bit rowdy at times.
“A lot of times when we both kind of slip off, they have a lot of fun,” Santa said with his hearty and jolly laugh.
The Christmas tree is one of the most prominent attributes of the holiday, and Santa said the top of the tree is the most important part. Whether it’s a star or a family heirloom, it helps set the tone for the tree. Santa also said the other major decorations on the tree are the ornaments specific to everyone in the family.
He’s a fan of all kinds of light decorations and enjoys the lights in sync with music, which seem to put the biggest smiles on children’s faces.
Santa appreciates the milk and cookies left for him on Christmas Eve, which is why he tends to gain weight around this time of the year.
“I like the big ole plate sized chocolate chip, sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, I just like cookies,” Santa said about his favorite type.
In spite of all the excitement surrounding Christmas and opening the presents, Santa urges children to go to bed early on this special evening.
“We’ve turned into a 24 hour society and it’s a struggle for kids to go to bed at a certain time every night, but it’s important. They have to have their rest; they have to have their sleep. Is it okay for them to stay up late every now and then when they don’t have school the next day? Yeah. But is it okay to stay up on Christmas Eve? No, it slows me down,” Santa said with a laugh.
