Anna Jena McCormick went to be with The Lord Nov. 30, 2015.
She was born Oct. 23, 1929, to parents Herbert and Audi Cockerham of Springhill, La. She is one of seven children: Mabel, Aline, Maxwell, Janell, Mary Beth and Cecilia Kay, with Janell being her twin and Mary Beth being her only surviving sibling.
Jena met Allen McCormick in 1947 soon after World War II, and they were married six months after their introduction by her brother Maxwell.
Allen, or “Irish,” as Jena called him, and Jena were happily married for 58 years before the Lord called Allen home in 1998. They had three sons, Ricky, Dennis and David, and a daughter, Carolyn Ann.
Ricky and his wife Joan live in Baltimore, David and his wife Marie live in San Antonio. Dennis went to be with the Lord in 2013, and his wife Shawn continues to live in the San Antonio area. Carolyn Ann went to be with The Lord shortly after her birth.
Jena has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She made her home in Springhill La., Pine Bluff Ark., Vicksburg, Atlanta, Texas, and finally San Antonio.
Always very involved with her church, Jena sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and other activities. She was also quite the artist. She and Allen loved making woodcrafts where Allen would do the woodwork and Jena would finish them out with beautiful painting.
She also taught art out of her home on occasion. In addition to art, Jena enjoyed playing the piano and continued playing until just recently. Jena never knew a stranger and ensured her home was always full of love and laughter.
Her approach to life was simple…love Jesus and convey His love to all. We love you Mom and rejoice that you are now home with our Lord.
Visitation was at Schertz Funeral Home Stateroom, Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015.
Interment was in Springhill Cemetery, Springhill, La.
