Cougars storm past PCA

RAYMOND — Porters Chapel Academy’s first winning streak of the season came to a thudding halt Thursday.

Ronald Williams scored 14 points to lead five Central Hinds players with eight or more, and the Cougars ran away from PCA early to win 61-29.

PCA (2-6) had won two in a row and only trailed by seven points heading into the second quarter. Central Hinds (9-3) then clamped down on defense, held the Eagles to four points in the period, and took a 31-12 lead into halftime.

The Cougars continued to pull away in the third quarter and led by 30 to 35 points for most of the last 12 minutes of the game.

Jonathon Albright added 11 points for Central Hinds, while Evan Spracklen scored 10 and Davis McCade had eight. Tanner Leggett finished with nine points and three assists.

Patrick Minor led Porters Chapel with six points, Isaiah Minor scored five and Kyle Learned had four.

The game was PCA’s last before the Christmas break. It’ll return to action Jan. 5 at home against Amite School Center.

(G) Central Hinds 47, Porters Chapel 14

Taylor Gagneaux scored 14 of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter, and also grabbed six rebounds to lead Central Hinds to an easy win over Porters Chapel Academy (0-8).

Porters Chapel did not score in the first quarter and trailed 33-4 at halftime. Carlyle Smith led the Lady Eagles with seven points and Gracie Felker scored four. It was 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Kendall Lowery had seven points, all in the second half, and four assists for Central Hinds (5-7). Anastasia Crechale and Keri Neely also scored seven points apiece, and Madison Curtis totaled seven rebounds.
