Velma Smith Barber

Velma Smith Barber was born Oct. 23, 1930, to Henry F. and Edna L. Smith in Lawrence County, Ga. She was the sixth of nine children. She died Dec. 27, 2015, at her home in the Bovina community after a lengthy illness.
She loved spending time with her family, cooking, reading her bible and writing poems. She was a member of Bovina Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Luther T. Barber; her parents, Henry F. and Edna L. Smith; her brothers, Vernon and Clyde Smith; her sisters, Irma Bourne and Trellie M. Davis; and her grandson, Lowery O. White III.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Delane Pipkin and Valorie Smith White of Vicksburg; her sisters, Esther Patterson and Edna Doris Stuart of Hattiesburg; her brothers, Henry “Bud” Smith (Maedale) of Florence and Leonard Levi Smith (Joann) of Sumrall; her grandchild, Velma Diane McAllister (Charles); her great-grandchildren, Dustin McAllister, Angelynn McAllister and Charles Jacob McAllister; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Carlos Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be David Smith, Jamey Acuff, John Erwin, Sr., Rick Meadows, Charles McAllister and Dustin McAllister. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Marty Coleman, Mike Traxler, Ricky Holdiness, Darwin Smith, Jerry Stuart, Johnny Bell, Martis “Bubba” Comans and Jacob A. Moak.
