Two quick strikes from Theodor Stang helped Warren Central sting Washington School.
Stang scored two goals in a two-minute span of the first half Saturday, and the Vikings went on to win 2-0 at the Greenville-St. Joseph tournament.
The Norwegian exchange student’s first goal came in the 11th minute, when he took a pass from Nick Wright, faked out two defenders in the box and scored. In the 13th minute, he placed a shot just inside the post from 25 yards out for his second goal.
Warren Central (10-2-1) didn’t score again, but didn’t need to. It outshot Washington 16-4 and maintained possession for much of the game.
In its second game of the day, Warren Central beat Oxford 1-0. Braylen Greer had the game’s only goal off a cross from Max Wamsley in the 21st minute.
Warren Central took 17 shots, but Oxford keeper Alex Davis made eight saves. WC keeper Brian McHan only faced eight shots, all of which were taken from beyond 20 yards and none of which made it on goal.
Warren Central will return to action Friday night, when it plays at crosstown rival Vicksburg High. The girls’ game will kick off at 5:30 p.m., and the boys at 7:15.
