PORT GIBSON – Margaret A. Abbott Varnado of Port Gibson died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Services are Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson. Burial will be at McBride Cemetery in Union Church, under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Margaret was born and raised in Jefferson County and lived in Port Gibson where she retired from Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant, Entergy Operations. Margaret had an incredible love for her family, friends and Lake Claiborne. She had a passion for people, telling stories, “rallying the troops” for her friends in times of need and “road trips.”
Her husband, Charles Varnado, and father, David Abbott, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Chris “Zeke” Raner (Ginger); step-daughter, Kristy Gullett (Troyce); mother, Minnie Abbott; brothers, Dexter and Tom Abbott; niece, Emily Abbott Baker (George); grandchildren, Jade Mooney, Kylee, Gracie and Layton Burke, and Addi Rae Keller; and friend, Walter Clark.
Pallbearers will be Trey Brown, David Trim, Brian Moore, Brian Brown, Gary Ray, Ricky Trim and Tim Trevilion. Honorary pallbearers will be Garnet Van Norman Jr., Garnet Van Norman III, Jeff Roberts, Gary Grammar, Joe Snyder, Robert Mosley and Bob Caulfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to McBride Cemetery Association, Jacobs Ladder or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
