Gwenetta Foster “Sister” Brooks

BERKLEY, Calif. — Gwenetta Foster “Sister” Brooks died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at her home in Berkeley. She was 76.

She was a member of Vision of Hope M. B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Clavelle; parents, the Rev. Harry P. Foster Sr. and Aretha Davis Foster; two brothers, the Rev. Thomas E. Foster Sr., Harry P. Foster Jr.; and three sisters, Jean Delores Johnson, Arleen F. Sims and Ernestine F. Bass.

Survivors include her husband, John Brooks Sr. of Berkeley; three sons, Roy Foster, John Brooks Jr. and Israel Brooks, all of Berkeley; two daughters, Rose M. Freeman of Richmond, Calif.; and Christina Appleberry of Sacramento, Calif; one stepdaughter, Elneedia Valentine of Atlanta; six brothers, Riley Watson of Bay St. Louis; Robert Foster of Berkeley; James Foster, Reuben L. Foster, Archie L. Foster and Odell Foster, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Aretha F. Gaskin, Irene D. Foster and Betty F. Pendleton, all of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Fouche Hudson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rolling Hills Memorial Park in Richmond.
