The public is invited on Monday, January 18, 2016, at 6:00 p.m., to the Vicksburg Municipal Auditorium, where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Day Committee; First Mississippi Chapter of Blacks In Government; and the Vicksburg Branch, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host the 30th Annual community-wide program to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The theme is Non-Violence: The Sword That Heals.
This 2016 holiday observance will mark the 87th birthday of the Rev. Dr. King and the 30th national holiday in his honor.
The speaker for this occasion is Rev. Dr. Isiac Jackson, Jr., president of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, Inc.
Other program participants are Miss Lylen Colby Fisher (Mistress of Ceremonies); Vicksburg High School JROTC; Calvary’s Worship, Praise and Harmony (trio under the direction of Mr. Travanti Hill); city and county officials; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commanders and officials, and others.
A previous article stated Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was involved in planning the celebration. That information was incorrect.
