A storm front moving ahead of a low pressure system is expected to affect the entire state of Mississippi late Tuesday morning with rain, large hail and damaging winds, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson said this morning.
Meteorologist Ed Tarver said the front is expected to hit the area between 11 a.m. and noon Tuesday.
“We’re looking at the potential for 1 to 2 inches of rain possible in the heavier showers, 1-inch diameter hail and wind gusts up to 65 mph, with possible tornadoes,” he said. “Once the system passes through, the threats will diminish, but we will still have some light rain.”
Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer said the early forecasts call for the worst of the weather to be north of Warren County.
“Fortunately, this is going to be a day event,” Elfer said. “The threat for the worst weather appears to be north of us, but we are in the elevated threat section. We’ll be watching it.”
Tarver said high temperatures Tuesday are expected to be in the mid-70s, adding the temperatured will begin cooling off during the day, dropping into the 40s by evening.
The high Wednesday will be in the 50s. The remaining forecast for the week predicts lows in 30s Wednesday night, with highs in the 40s and lows in the upper 20s Thursday, and highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s Friday and Saturday.
