Alcorn to introduce new coach Tuesday

Alcorn State is moving swiftly to fill the coaching vacancy left by Jay Hopson’s move to Southern Miss.

In a release late Monday afternoon, Alcorn’s athletics department said it will introduce its replacement for Hopson at a news conference Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson.

The name of the new coach was not released.

Fred McNair, the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach, was named interim head coach after Hopson was hired by Southern Miss on Saturday. McNair, a former Alcorn quarterback and the brother of football icon Steve McNair, has been on the Braves’ staff since 2013.
