Hinds splits doubleheader with Bossier

Chase Cockrell went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs as Hinds Community College beat Bossier Parish 12-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday in Shreveport.

Cockrell, a freshman from Bastrop, La., singled in two runs during a six-run first inning that sent the Eagles on their way. He added a two-run homer in the third inning and another RBI single in the fifth.

Cockrell has driven in eight runs in Hinds’ first four games.

Will Craft also had a pair of RBI singles for Hinds (2-2), which salvaged a split of the doubleheader with the big win.

Bossier Parish rallied for a 3-2 win in game one, scoring the winning run on a walk-off squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Kyle O’Keefe had an RBI double for Hinds, and Trey Jolly an RBI single. Former Warren Central star Layne Tedder saw his first action on the mound. He entered in relief in the fifth inning.

Hinds will host Panola (Texas) for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., and then will go on an eight-game road trip lasting nearly three weeks.
