Voter wishing to vote in the March 8 primary election have until noon Saturday, Warren County Circuit Clerk Jan Hyland Daigre said.
“We will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon for people who want to come in and cast absentee ballots,” Daigre said. “People can also come and vote absentee anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. the rest through Friday.”
The March 8 primary is the primary for congressional races and the state’s presidential preference primary. Because the elections are party primaries, voters will have to give their party preference when they sign up to vote at the polls.
The congressional primary involves four Mississippi congressional seats, Districts 1 through 4. The congressional race of local interest is the 2nd District, where incumbent Bennie Thompson is unopposed in the Democratic primary, but will face a challenge in November from Gulfport businessman John Bouie II, who is unopposed in the Republican primary.
The state’s Democratic presidential primary features four candidates on the ballot, while the field in the Republican primary totals 13.
Listed on the Democratic ballot are Hillary Clinton, Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders. The Republican ballot includes Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckaby, John W. Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Donald Trump.
