A Claiborne County man wanted in connection with the shooting death of Kordell Bates, was in custody Saturday night after leading police officers on a chase reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph along Interstate 20 and U.S. 61 South in Vicksburg and back into Claiborne County.

Claiborne County Sheriff Frank Davis said Marqyvis Ladarrius Shaw, 21, was arrested at the end of the chase. He was taken to Claiborne County Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. His condition was undetermined.

Davis said Shaw, Cedrick Donnell Amoh Jr. 19, and Brian Eggleston Jr., 23, are charged with murder in the death of Bates, 25, whose body was found early Friday morning by a passerby laying on the roadside with a gunshot wound in the face. All three were arrested Saturday and are being held without bail in the Claiborne County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

Shaw was caught after he flipped the car he was driving near the intersection of U.S. 61 and Mott Headley Road north of the Port Gibson city limits. Two guns were found at the scene of the accident, but Davis could not say if either was used in Bates’ death.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said the chase began about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, after he and a Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper tried to stop Shaw near the intersection of Mississippi 27 and Clay Street and Shaw drove off, getting on I-20 at the Clay Street entrance heading west.
