Philip H. Jones Sr., 85, of Vicksburg, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at home.

He lived in Vicksburg all his life. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church; and was a member of the VFW, U.S. Army.

Being a very patriotic person, he served in the Korean War as a front line medic. After serving in Korea, he returned home and worked for Luckie Electric before going to work at Waterways Experiment Station.

At Waterways, he worked as an electrician and in the weapons effect laboratory, where he received many awards for outstanding work at Waterways Experiment Station. While he was still involved with Waterways, he started Philip Jones Electric Inc.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ansel H. Jones; mother, Camelia Bliss Jones; three brothers, William Jones, A.H. Jones Jr. and Ollie Jo Jones; and five sisters, Catherine Hartley, Evelyn Beauchamp, Dorothy Rusk, Emma Mae Marshall and Minta Alice White.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jackie Jones; son, Philip “Sonny” (Teresa) Jones Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters Carmen Lynn (Kenny) Robinson and Anissa A. Jones; two sisters, Anna Jo Thomas and Marie Nevels; four grandchildren, Haley Murphy, Jullianna Jones, Mattie Jones and Elena Rodriguez; and one great-grandchild Lynley James Murphy.

Service will be Tuesday March 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Chapel.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Susannah Grubbs Carr and Rev. Tommy Miller conducting the service under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be William Lee Jones, Benjie Thomas, Marshall Thomas, Frank Skinner Jr., Gordon Cotton, Richard Hartley, William Bill Fenwick and Elum Rusk.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Hinson, Malcolm Antoine, Marvin Muirhead, Victor Cain, Barbara Bliss Quirk, Jana Cronin Jackson, Jim “Baby Jim” Tompkins, Gentiva Home Health Care, St. Joseph Hospice, Dr. Lee Giffin and Dr. Paul Pierce IV.
