With all of the starts and stops of spring break, early-season games and various tournaments finished, the Porters Chapel Eagles got down to the business of starting their playoff push Tuesday night.
Leon Simms went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles, three RBIs total, and two runs scored to lead PCA to a 13-0 run-rule victory over Clinton Christian on Tuesday.
Porters Chapel (6-6-1, 2-1 District 5-AA) won its third consecutive game as it embarked on a stretch where eight of its last 10 regular-season games are within the district. It’ll play at Clinton Christian Friday at 3 p.m.
“These last couple of games, you can start to see them gaining confidence. Especially batting and how they’re going about things inning by inning,” PCA coach Wade Patrick said. “This is two games in a row we’ve played errorless ball. They’re starting to believe in themselves and gaining confidence.”
PCA escaped a jam in the first inning by throwing a runner out at the plate, then immediately took the lead by scoring twice in the bottom half. Simms had an RBI single and scored on a passed ball.
The Eagles then blew it open by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Simms had another RBI single, while Ryan Collins and Robi Riggin each delivered two-run singles.
Bradley McCullough’s two-run single in the third inning keyed a four-run rally.
McCullough scored three runs, while Collins, Glen Alan Kittrell and Wade Dickard scored two each. Garrett Hutchins pitched a complete-game two-hitter for the win.
“We swung the bats real well. That’s probably one of the best we’ve swung it, top to bottom, this year,” Patrick said. “And then we made plays. They hit the ball, but we made plays. We threw that guy out at the plate in the first inning and came back and scored two and then scored seven, and when you do that the kids get that good feeling.”
