WC’s Watts wins shot put at Region 2-6A meet

Warren Central’s Caleb Watts won the boys’ shot put at Saturday’s Region 2-6A track and field meet, and was one of seven Vikings to advance to the Class 6A North State meet in individual events.

Watts, who also won the Division 4-6A championship the previous week, won with a throw of 45 feet, 5 inches.

Other North State qualifiers for Warren Central were Miraculous Powers and Raylon Sayles (110 meter hurdles), Willie Smith (high jump), Keenen Jones (discus), Maliek Berry (100 meters) and Josh Wilson (200 meters).

The boys’ 4×200 meter relay team of Berry, Wilson, Corey Wilson Jr., and Tybias Williams also advanced.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for North State, which is Saturday at Madison Central. The Class 6A state meet is May 6 at Pearl High School.

In the girls’ meet, Warren Central’s K.K. McCarley qualified in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs.

Kiara Lockhart and Raven Thompson finished second and third, respectively, to advance in the high jump, Thompson moved on to North State with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump, and the 4×200 meter relay team finished fourth.
