Warren Central will begin its quest for the Class 6A baseball championship on a winning streak.

Game 1 will be at Warren Central Friday at 6 p.m., and Game 2 at Northwest Rankin Saturday at 2 p.m. If Game 3 is necessary, it’ll be back at WC on May 2.

Terry (19-8) lost its third straight game.

“It’s a big win to finish out the season. The guys are playing great baseball right now and doing it as a team,” Warren Central coach Conner Douglas said. “I hope the momentum carries to Friday when a new season begins.”

D.J. Lewis went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Warren Central. He tripled in the first inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Boolos to tie the game at 1. In the second inning, he had an RBI single as part of a four-run rally that put the Vikings ahead 5-1.

John Austin Burris also had an RBI single in the second inning, and two runs scored on a ground out by Landon Stewart.

The Vikings only had six hits in the game and didn’t score after the second inning, but it was enough offense to win. In the first two innings, Terry pitcher Tristan Murphy allowed four hits, a walk and hit two batters. He gave up two hits, no runs and no walks over the last four innings.

“We swung it well all night, but the ball fell for us in that inning on top of some aggressive baserunning making things happen. We had some timely hits,” Douglas said.

On the mound, the Vikings’ three pitchers split the duties and all of them pitched effectively.

Logan Stewart started and went the first three innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out one. Abendroth and Boolos followed with two innings apiece, and combined to allowed two hits in four shutout innings.

Abendroth struck out three and walked one and was credited with the win. Boolos got a save.

Warren Central has allowed two runs or fewer in five of its last six games.

“We’re keeping everyone sharp and seeing who we can rely on in playoff type ballgames,” Douglas said. “The staff has thrown really well lately. I’m proud of them and how well we are playing defensively. We’re starting to swing it well, too, so I hope we keep it pieced together for several more weeks.”
