William “Bill” Abbott Windham

TALLULAH, La. — William “Bill” Abbott Windham died in his home surrounded by family Tuesday, April 26, 2016, due to heart failure. He was 84.
Mr. Windham was born May 14, 1931, in Bastrop, La., to his parents, Wilburn Clinton Windham and Eleen Blanchard Windham.
After spending his childhood and high school years in Georgetown, S.C., he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana State University with a B.A. in education and received his master’s degree in school administration from the University of Mississippi.
Mr. Windham married Patsy Murphy of Tallulah in August 1956. He worked as a math teacher and assistant principal at Tallulah High School for nine years before serving as principal of the school from 1968 to 1978. His passion for education and care for children made him a strong, supportive leader for so many of his students.
Mr. Windham was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Windham.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Windham; three children, William Clinton Windham of Shreveport, La., Todd Windham of Valdosta, Ga., and Cheryl Lewis of Madison; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at United Methodist Church in Tallulah followed by the burial.
The family will receive guests from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Tallulah Country Club.
Pallbearers will be Regan Nosser, Hunter Windham, William Windham, Carter Windham, Rob Mahaffey, Drake Adams and Jeremy Foote.
